Some of my favorite tools
Having the proper tools when you are baking is essential. Here are the key ones you absolutely need for making the baking fun and easier to do.
For starter, you need the good tools to measure ingredient and contrairly to what most people think, you cannot use the same cups format for both liquid and dry ingredients. Those are the ones you need; the first is for liquid ingredients and the second is for dry ingredients.

Now, for the mixing part of the process, you have two choices. First, you can have a good fixed mixer, which is a great tool to have at home because it allows you to do something else while the cake is mixing and add things to it fluently. The problem with those is the price, which varies from 200$ to 800$. If this is over your budget, no worries, a standard mixer (by hand) is as effective but you need to be careful not to mix to fast or overmix.
A soft spatula and a profound (non metallic) bowl with a sticky bottom to make sure it sticks to the counter and doesn't move are two usefull tools to prevent and avoid loss and messy counters.
For the cooking of basic cakes, you can use regular cake pans. I recommand having two cake pans of every size you want (to make two layers). Because most of recipes are made for 8 or nine inches circular cake pans, I would recommand having two of both. They should be of about 2-3 inches deep. For cheesecake, you should use a non-adhesive cake pan with a removable contour.
Now the fun part: tools for decorating you masterpiece.
There are as many different tools you can use as there are different designs you can make so I will only describe you the ones I find the most useful.
First, if you are working with buttercream (or any other frosting), you absolutely need these to make fabulous designs:
* If You don't like to work with a flat spatula to smooth the icing/frosting, you can always use a thick-solid cardboard of about 15cm long.

Second, if you are now working with fondant: than those two tools are a must have.
For the fondant, (as as the buttercream) there exists many small tools to shape the fondant with which are often also used to make ans decorate flowers. Here is a picture with a few of them on it (because every single one of them can have infinetely many purpose, I won't say what to use them for).
