How to make delicious fondant for less than ten dollars!
Making homemade fondant seems complicated and long to do but it is the easiest step of your baking experience. It takes about 15-20 minutes and does not require a lot of skills/technique.
First you need the following:
- A clean non-sticky surface (wood table with no sticky polish or very clean counter.
- The content of two marshmallow cream pot (the "Fluff" brand is available at most of the grocery store)
- One bag (2lbs) of powdered sugar (plus more do dust the working surface and the rolling pin)
- About 3 tablespoons of butter (at room temperature)
- Vanilla at taste (I put 3-4 teaspoones)
To make the fondant, follow these steps: (first wash your hands ans remove all jewelry)
1. Put the marshmallow cream and half of the sugar in a big bowl. Than add the butter and vanilla.
2. Start by mixing with a wooden spoon until the mixture starts to blend together.
3. Put powdered sugar on the working surface (don't be affraid to put a lot!)
4. Continue mixing the ingredients together with your hands (it mixes better than with the spoon at some point) adding sugar until you obtain a thick ball of fondant but avoid putting more than one bag of sugar because the fondant will become dry and hard to work with.
5. Wrap the fondant in saranwrap, put it it a closed plastic bowl and put it in the fridge for one or two days before using to make it harden.
Add food coloring agent to the fondant when using it to make your favorite shade and you have delicious cheap fondant.
